Am Sonntag, 10. Juni 2007, steht das UNESCO-Welterbe Zollverein in Essen ganz im Zeichen von Freizeit, Spiel und Spaß im neu gestalteten Zollverein-Park. Die Entwicklungsgesellschaft Zollverein lädt zu einem ganztägigen Fest ein. Von 11 bis 18 Uhr bietet das Programm viel Abwechslung, Mitmach-Aktionen für Groß und Klein, Musik und Entdeckertouren durch den Industriewald. Offiziell eröffnet wird der Zollverein-Park um 13 Uhr durch den NRW-Umweltminister Eckhard Uhlenberg und den Essener Oberbürgermeister Dr. Wolfgang Reiniger.

An vier Wochenenden im Juni steht das Team des Zollverein Park Ihnen im neu erbauten Empfangspavillon am Forum Rede und Antwort. Anhand einer kleinen Ausstellung wollen wir unseren Blick auf Zollverein vermitteln und das Konzept des Parks vorstellen.

Zollvereinpark
This is where the dead rock from below the surface used to be tipped. Now visitors can discover rare flora and fauna and creatures here. The natural world has reconquered the old spoil tip. The layout of the Zollverein Park pays tribute to this fact. By designing and extending the existing landscape in a respectful and careful manner we have created a domesticated wilderness. The park is in a continual process of natural change, helped by constant considerate care and cultivation.
New paths have been laid down to connect the complete area. In addition, a 3.5 km circular promenade is being created, that should be completed by 2010. This is the place for cyclists, walkers, joggers and nature lovers.
Pavilions are being built at central points along the site for art venues and to be used as peaceful zones. Playgrounds will offer plenty of fun to families and their children. By night discreet, natural lighting will emphasise the spatial dimensions of Zollverein. Visitors to evening events will be greeted in a very pleasant atmosphere.
Three-dimensional models of Zollverein will help visitors to find their way about the site. Placed at the entrances and important points along the way they will provide vivid illustrations of the World Cultural Heritage Site. Thus visitors will be able to get their bearings and find their way to their next destination with ease.
